Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Digital Trade in Mauritius

Maurice Stratégie presented a paper titled “The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Digital Trade in Mauritius” at the WCP Virtual International Conference on International Trade and Investment Special Conference Theme ‘Digital Trade in Africa: The Way Forward’, organised by the WTO Chairs Programme (WCP) at The University of Mauritius in collaboration with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and WTO Chairs at the North-West University (South Africa), University of Tunis (Tunisia), University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Rwanda (Rwanda), TRAPCA (Tanzania) and Cairo University (Egypt).  


The paper provides an analysis of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the adoption of digital trade within the Mauritian economy using Interrupted Time Series Analysis. It is found that Covid-19 had an immediate negative effect but a positive and sustained effect on digital trade in Mauritius in the medium term.
